Education:
The tests during the evaluation depend on the patient’s age and existing hearing information. They reveal the degree, type, and ear conditions. The audiologist also distinguishes between conductive (middle or outer ear), sensorineural (inner ear), or central (auditory processing) hearing issues. A diagnostic audiologic evaluation comprises pure-tone, bone-conduction, speech audiometry and tympanometry.
Newborn hearing screening aims to detect potential hearing loss in infants and identify those needing further evaluation. It also helps spot medical conditions that could lead to delayed hearing issues, establishing a monitoring plan. Otoacoustic emissions (OAE) test ear responses to sound via a soft probe tip inserted into the baby’s ear canal, measuring an “echo” in normal hearing ears. Absence of this echo may indicate hearing loss in the baby.
Ear impressions are personalized ear models. Audiologists send these impressions to manufacturers to craft precise ear molds. Custom hearing aids and hearing protection devices are then tailored to fit your ears perfectly, improving treatment effectiveness. You can choose a deep-fit solution that extends beyond the second bend in the external ear canal. Ear impressions are a valuable option for anyone dealing with hearing issues, ensuring top-quality medical care for your ears.
